"Alden" (オールデン Ōruden) is an archetype exclusive to the Keter Sanctuary nation, first introduced in D Booster Set 01: Genesis of the Five Greats and receiving its first support in D Booster Set 13: Flight of Chakrabarthi.
Playstyle[]
The Alden archetype focuses on increasing the player's hand through drawing and bouncing rear guards to hand, only to then superior call cards from the hand to increase aggression. The Alden support also focuses on increasing their own power from his ability.
Grand Heavenly Sword, Alden's ability allows the player to superior call a card from their hand at the cost of [2 Counter Blast & 1 Soul Blast]. Although an expensive cost, if a Grade 3 was called from his ability, the player is rewarded by drawling to cards. Over time, the cost of this skill has been less of a concern as Keter gain a number of counter chargers.
This ability works will with Knight of Heavenly Sword, Fort as the player will be able to superior call a Grade 3 on their second turn in addition to Alden. However, this ability requires a lot of setup and luck as the player would have to hope that Alden is resting on top of their deck to call using Fort's skill. Then the player would need to have at least taken two damage by their second turn which can also be unlikely.
Alden's second ability increases his power by [5,000] as long their is at least 3 or more Grade 3s on the field, allowing him to become at [18,000 Power] attacking rear-guard. Since this is an [Auto] ability, Alden works with well with an cards that restand him, allowing Alden to gain additional [5,000 Power].
Alden is an excellent rear-guard for Bastion decks as Bastion's increasing power and restanding of rear-guards has high synergy with Alden.
Alden's new upgrade form focuses around him being a Vanguard rather than a rear-guard. Alden still rewards the player by drawing two cards by superior calling a unit at one less Counter Blast. Alden's superior calling ability is no longer restricted to Grade 3s as his ability will go off with lower grades as well.
Later, Alden gains another new form equipped with a Divine Skill that enables the player to summon 2 rear-guards from their deck, as well as a skill that allows the player to return their own rear guards to hand if a new unit was called on top of it by Alden's ability in order to conserve hand advantage. The units called by this version of Alden are immune to retires until your next turn, and some supporting rear guards provide benefits to units that were called to replace them.
