  • This card works great with Maleikoh because whenever an opponent's rear guard is placed into the drop zone during your main phase, with a Soul Blast of one, you may unflip a damage. Since Breakdown Dragon's skill retires 2 units, with a Soul Blast of 2 you can unflip 2 damage allowing you to do more with your counterblasts. Do note that Mareiko's skill only activates when those retired Rear Guards are the same column as it.
    • An alternative is Perdition Dancer, Anna since this guy's skill gurantees an empty collumn.
    • If you are using the Mareiko combo, you might want to use Flame Edge Dragon or certain cards that helps to fill your Soul as Mareiko's unfliping skill requires a Soulblast.
    • Other than Mareiko, Lizard Soldier, Grom is a viable substitute, though it needs more cost.
  • Running Mareisei, Mahoraga, JokaSutherland and Blazing Flare Dragon in a Breakdown Dragon deck is actually a good idea as they get buffed when your opponent's units are retired during the main phase.
    • Do note that, however, you might want to play less cards that uses counterblasts as Breakdown uses a lot of counterblasts itself.
    • It might help if you have the room to run breakrides - to break this over Hellfire Seal Dragon, Weathercloth. Weathercloth can retire 2 for no cost, and possibly lessen their rear-guard count if they don't have any grade 2 to be called. You can either retire one lane, letting them call two cards (which can't boost each other), or retire the back row rear-guards (so that they can't boost). In the case that they call any less than two cards, you can retire another rear-guard lane and ensure yourself an unflip.
