The Dauntless (ドーントレス Dōntoresu) are a series of cards that include "Dauntless" in its card name exclusive of the Kagero clan. They were first introduced in the Booster Set 11: Seal Dragons Unleashed and received their first support in Booster Set 14: Brilliant Strike.
Background[]
Dauntless Drive Dragon is...
One of the oldest soldiers in the empire who has been around since the time of the First Emperor. Desiring to become stronger than anyone else, even though he is a passionate dragon warrior, as the years pile themselves on top of him, he grew weaker. So, he chose to retire to the sacred mountains at the age of 4000, and sealed his body away. However, this seal was shattered by the appearance of an unexpected group of visitors called "Link Joker". After awakening from the attack, and having been kicked about by the invaders' vanguard team, this tenacious dragon, with the title of "Dauntless Drive", was assigned to "Kagero". The fighting spirit of this ancient general continues to fire up the spirits of those who would waver. Someday soon, the invaders will be sorry. That they awoke the immortal soldier who fears not despair.
Dauntless Dominate Dragon "Яeverse" is...
This is "Dauntless Drive Dragon" after being twisted by the power of the avatar of Void, "Link Joker". Influenced by "Reverse", its fearsome personality to pursue victory and power was revived. Hearing that a squad of "Kagero"'s rookies was ambushed, it rushed to the battlefield alone, disregarding its subordinates' advices. However, what awaited it were the cruelly demolished rookie squad and "Chaos Breaker Dragon", who was delivering the fatal blow to the last rookie. The old general charged, roaring as if it was crying, but this was in fact the trap of the Clown. Locked by thousands of hidden soldiers, its torn heart was implanted with "Void".
Even in the end, this dragon was not bent to desperation. Those who could become strong in the future were killed meaninglessly---the dauntless dragon could do nothing but to kneel down before such a sorrowful scene.
Playstyle[]
The two iterations of Dauntless feature different sets of skills that work synergistically with each other. Dauntless Drive Dragon serves as the first break ride for Kagero and bestows the unit that rides over it the ability to [Stand] after they have attacked assuming they did not [Stand] via a skill earlier, allowing for devastating attacks from the vanguard especially when combined with other skills. Dauntless Dominate Dragon "Яeverse" is able to lock one of it's player's rear-guards to gain a skill where when it drive checks a grade 1 or higher unit, it is able to retire one of the opponent's grade 1 or lower rear-guards and gain a modest amount of [Power] until end of turn. The skills give Dauntless Dominate the potential to break through certain [Shield] thresholds that normally a vanguard would not be able to without successful trigger checks and works well with the break ride skill of Dauntless Drive which will allow more chances to activate Dauntless Dominate's skill.
Both versions of Dauntless would see a return in the later periods of V Premium with skill sets that harken to their original iterations, but with an expanded scope. Dauntless Drive Dragon itself is now able to [Stand] at the end of a battle it attacked should the player's hand count be four or more while it replicates it's original iterations role as a break ride by giving the unit that rides over it all of it's own skills, once more leading to deadly combinations with other members of Kagero as well as even the opportunity for Dauntless Drive to [Stand] twice in a battle phase should he ride over himself. Dauntless Dominate Dragon "Яeverse" maintains it's focus on drive checking normal units, but instead now can call those revealed normal units to (RC) and immediately lock them so he can gain an additional drive check and [Power] . At the end of the battle where Dauntless Dominate attacked, he is able to unlock all locked cards on it's player's field, retire them and then force the opponent to retire several of their own rear-guards for each unlocked rear-guard that was retired and should the opponent fail to meet this threshold at any point, they're instead forced to remove a marker from one of their circles, crippling the offensive capabilities bestowed by the various Imaginary Gifts in the game.
