 Hidden Message (秘められたメッセージ) is the 20th episode of Cardfight!! Vanguard: Season 1 in the Cardfight!! Vanguard Anime.

Summary[]

With one loss in their record, Team Q4 has to win both the next matches in order to advance through the regional tournament. Though everyone is certain that Kai will win, Aichi becomes increasingly desperate, as his match will be the one to decide the fate of the team, going as far as to try and persuade Misaki to participate instead. Kai disciplines Aichi by telling him that he'd never fight a coward who would run away, and takes on the stage. Though Komatsubara ZAPAN!! Kaoru seems to be a formidable opponent, Kai gains an early lead, pushing his enemy into a formidable situation. Both players at five damage, Kaoru confidently declares that he will survive and claim victory - but Kai refutes that claim, loudly announcing Final Turn! He rides with a new card, Blazing Flare Dragon, and uses a card skill to retire one opposing unit and increase his attack power. At that moment, Kaoru realizes that it was a hopeless situation to begin with, and he cannot defend - but Kai relentlessly adds the power and critical of two triggers in a row to Blazing Flare, thoroughly annihilating Kaoru. Seeing Kai's power, and remembering his own aspirations to reach his level, Aichi becomes motivated to win his fight!

Featured Battle (Kai Toshiki (Kagero) vs Kaoru (Granblue)[]

He calls two Iron Tail Dragons (Grade 1/7000 power). He attack Samurai Spirit (7000 power) with Iron Tail Dragon (7000 power). Kaoru Damage check reveals Gust Jinn (Grade 1/No Trigger) and his damage is increased to 1. Next, Kai attack Samurai Spirit (7000 power) with Bahr (8000 power) boosted by Conroe (5000 power) (total power: 13000 power). He drive check reveals Embodiment of Spear, Tahr (Grade 0/Critical Trigger). He gives critical to Bahr (critical: 2) and power to another Iron Tail Dragon (12000 power). Kaoru damage check reveals Evil Shade (Grade 1/No Trigger) and Captain Nightmist (Grade 2/No Trigger), and his damage is increased to 3. Then, Kai attack Samurai Spirit (7000 power) again with another Iron Tail Dragon (12000 power) but Kaoru guards with Skeleton Lookout (Grade 0/10000 shield) (total def: 17000 shield). Due to Ruin Shade's skill, he send another Captain Nightmist and Rick the Ghostie (Grade 0/Heal Trigger/5000 power) from the top of his deck to the Drop Zone to gain 2000 power until the end of that battle (total power: 19000 power). He attacks Nightmist (8000 power) with Iron Tail Dragon (9000 power) boosted by Gattling Claw Dragon (4000 power) (total power: 13000 power). Kaoru damage check reveals Commodore Blueblood (Grade 2/No Trigger) and his damage is increased to 4. Due to Blazing Flare Dragon's and Sutherland's skill, they get 3000 power for each opponent rear-guard put into Drop Zone. He call Embodiment of Armor, Bahr (Grade 1/8000 power). He attack Spirit Exceed (10000 power) with Blazing Flare Dragon (13000 power) boosted by Conroe (5000 power) (total power: 18000 power).
