The Shop Tournament Begins! (ショップ大会開幕) is the 9th episode of Cardfight!! Vanguard: Season 1 in the Cardfight!! Vanguard Anime.

Summary

The Card Capital Shop Tournament finally begins. In the first round, Aichi must play against Izaki while at the same time, Morikawa battles Misaki. Since this is his first time in a tournament, Aichi grows nervous. His tournament jitters get the better of him as he makes many amateur mistakes. But when he sees that Izaki is also just as nervous and makes similar mistakes, Aichi realizes that he's not alone, regains his composure, and remembers that Vanguard fights should be fun. When he tells Izaki that, he too calms down, and the two continue playing the game at their best. In the end, not only does Aichi win, but Misaki also advances to the next round.

He drives check reveal Wyvern Guard, Barri (Grade 1/No Trigger/Kagero). Aichi damage check reveal Solitary Knight, Gancelot (Grade 3/No Trigger/Royal Paladin). AIchi's damage is increased to 1 and Izaki ends his turn.

Aichi draw Knight of Silence, Gallatin (Grade 2/No Trigger/Royal Paladin/10000 power) and rides it. He calls Little Sage, Marron (Grade 1/No Trigger/Royal Paladin/8000 power). He attacks Skyptero (6000 power) with Gallatin (10000 power) boosted by Barcgal (4000 power) (total power: 14000 power). Izaki guards with Lizard Soldier, Ganlu (Grade 0/Kagero/10000 shield) (total def: 16000 power). Aichi drive check reveals Flogal (Grade 0/Stand Trigger/Royal Paladin). He attacks Gallatin (10000 power) with vanguard Blightops (9000 power). He drives check reveals Dragon Dancer, Monica (Grade 0/Draw Trigger/Kagero) but the trigger would not activate because he do not have <Kagero> unit on his field. Hence, the attack did not hit and he attacks Marron (8000 power) with rear-guard Blightops (9000 power). Aichi guards with Bringer of Good Luck, Epona (Grade 0/Royal Paladin/10000 shield) (total def: 18000 shield) and the attack did not hit. Izaki ends his turn.

Then, he attack Alfred (10000 power) again with Blightops (14000 power) boosted by Monica (5000 power) (total power: 19000 power). Aichi guards with Future Knight, Llew (Grade 0/Royal Paladin/10000 shield) (total def: 20000 shield). The attack did not hit and Izaki ends his turn.

Aichi stands and draw. Aichi switch Marron and Flogal places, and call Solitary Knight, Gancelot (Grade 3/No Trigger/Royal Paladin/9000 power). Flogal is retired due to that. He attack Deathrex (10000 power) with Gallatin (10000 power) boosted by Elaine (5000 power) (total power: 15000 power). Izaki guards with Winged Dragon Skyptero (Grade 1/Tachikaze/5000 shield) and intercept with Assault Dragon, Blightops (Grade 2/Tachikaze/5000 shield) (total def: 20000 shield). The attack did not hit. Next, Aichi attacks Deathrex (10000 power) with Alfred (10000 power). Due to Alfred's skill, it get 10000 power (total power: 20000 power). The battle is unknown. Morikawa's unit is Lizard Runner, Undeux (Grade 0/No Trigger/Kagero/6000 power) and Misaki's unit is unknown.

Morikawa draws Juggernaut Maximum (Grade 3/No Trigger/Spike Brothers/11000 power) but unable to ride because all the cards in his hand are grade 3 only.

In later turns, Misaki wins due to Morikawa declared that he lose.

• The clan: Tachikaze is introduced.
• Although Tyrant, Deathrex did made an appearance in earlier episodes, it was not mentioned nor explained of his effects until this episode

Goof

• Before Aichi rides Knight of Silence, Gallatin, his vanguard is shown to be Flogal although it supposed to be Wingal.
• It's unknown when did Flogal appeared on the back row of Marron. It is possible that Aichi use Barcgal's skill to call it to the rear guard circle.
• During the time Izaki gives power to Blightops, Dragon Knight, Aleph is seen at the back row of the Blightops. It supposed to be Dragon Dancer, Monica.
