Cardfight!! Vanguard Wiki

Masanori Iseki is a character and antagonist in Cardfight!! Vanguard overDress. He was formerly Tohya Ebata's partner. He used to work for Team Daybreak, though the Season 2 finale reveals he is secretly working with Uniformers.

In Cardfight!! Vanguard Divinez, he gets chosen for the Fated Clash and is the holder of the Fated One of Taboo card.

Name[]

Masanori's given name can mean "normal" when spelled in kanji (正則). Masanori's surname consists of 伊勢, which means "Ise Province" and 木, which means "wood".

Appearance[]

Masanori is a tall man who mostly wears a black suit with a pink undershirt and a pink and black tie. He's never seen without his blackglasses, even when he entered a hot spring. He's shaved bald, which seems to be due to him being a monk.

In the past, while training as a monk, he wore typical monk clothes, though he still wore his blackglasses even then.

Personality[]

Masanori is a rather eccentric individual who is fond of theatrical appearances, frequently making big flashy introductions for himself and tends to exaggerate his stories. Masanori's over the top antics tend to annoy those around him, but he usually keeps his attitude even when others are upset at him.

Masanori admires Tohya's strength and follows him as his partner, he attempts to guide Tohya to continue being a Cardfighter, and was visibly concerned about Tohya after his loss against Yu-Yu.

After nearly being blown out of the sky by an angry Zakusa and Team Blackout, he now thinks that the people of Kaga are boorish.

As the series progresses, Masanori is eventually revealed to be a cunning and manipulative schemer, who enjoys driving people to hit the rock bottom and bring out their worst traits, under the belief that is how someone's true nature is revealed. He did this by masking his true intentions to either gain sympathy or get closer to those he is interested in manipulating. This was shown how he was able to persuade Haruka to crush other teams through banner burning to improve Team Daybreak for Mirei's sake.

As well as manipulate Tohya to aid Daybreak in their crusade, whom he eventually abandons once he is defeated by Danji and nominated to be the next Blackout leader, also manipulates Mirei and Haruka to expand the influence of Team Daybreak, eventually abandon the Team when Mieai is defeated by Yuyu, similar to abandon Uniformers when Yu-yu beats Gui during WillDress.

He considers himself the calculating type, much like Tohya, which puts him at odds with Zakusa. Masanori's repeated visits and taunting of Team Blackout as well as his rivalry with Zakusa would later be revealed to a calculated move on his part to obtain information on Team Blackout in order to facilitate Tohya's attack against them. Following Tohya's acceptance of the leadership of Team Blackout, Masanori resumed his true position supporting the expansion of Team Daybreak through the forced dissolution of other cardfighting teams.

He has a very curious personality and expect to see the unknown, as the Masques cards, Griphogila, and the Fated Clash.

As a monk, Masanori is a follower of Buddhism.

History[]

In the past, while in college, Masanori trained to be a monk in China. That's when he met Tohya. Tohya asked for a fight against the strongest of the monks, easily beating all of them but Masanori. As such, he fought Masanori afterwards and won as well. Surprised by Tohya's strength and ideology, Masanori decided to follow him.

In the present time, he mostly follows Tohya around. Nonetheless, he once sought Danji on his own, though failed to find him as he constantly arrived after Danji had left for his part-time jobs. Every time he arrived, he did so on an airplane blasting out music, which blew away Zakusa's Cardinal Deus, Orfist, causing a conflict between the two, which culminated in a Cardfight after Zakusa tried to blow him out of the sky. While Zakusa won the fight, Masanori finally got to tell Danji what he wanted to: that Tohya was back but was not the same Tohya they knew anymore.

Deck[]

Masanori uses a Stoicheia deck with Mysterious Rain Spiritualist, Zorga as his Vanguard. This deck's strategy is based on gaining the benefits of multiple Order cards through the use of Alchemagic. To facilitate this, Masanori makes frequent use of cards which rapidly send cards to his Drop Zone.

Deck

For his rematch against Tohya, Masanori uses a deck that includes Masque of Hydragrum and Teasing Spiritualist, Zorga Masques, this Zorga allows the use of Alchemagic with cards with the same name.

Deck

During Cardfight!! Vanguard Divinez, Masanori uses a deck focused on his new Vanguard, Fated One of Taboo, Zorga Nadir that allows the use of Alchemagic with cards of the bind zone, also their support can call itself from the drop to reinforce its attacks using the Divine Skill of Zorga Nadir.
