The movie is coming out in 2020,so I guess the manga will be done by 2022 or so?If it's longer than that,I don't really see why they wouldn't make a 3rd movie.
It feels weird thinking that Academia started only a few years ago, became super popular, and now it's gonna end in a few years.I was sorta expecting it to last at least a bit more after OP ends,so WSJ can use Academia as their new poster series, but I guess that won't happen now.
EDIT: NVM,apparently the movie premieres this December,so I guess it's gonna end even sooner than I thought.
Death Note,FMA,and Infinity Wars(I had to do a double take when I first read it lol) are always my go to-s when trying to introduce someone to anime.Part of it is because they're not super crazy in their premises/overall style,so it might not be as weird of a change from TV shows, and also because they've all been mainstream at some point,so maybe the person might have heard of them and not feel as unfamiliar as they might be with another anime.
Also I don't get the ZerkBear reference,I need more hints :P
unpopular opinion: I actually enjoyed the 2016 remake for what it was.Granted that was before I read the manga,so I had no previous idea of what the story was about, but I found the anime enjoyable enough to make me interested in reading the source material, and that's saying something.
The ultimate villain is called "Nine" ,and he was teased in the manga as well,so this might have to do with that concept Horikoshi mentioned.
Wild theory time:
You know how the entire story of Academia is presented from Izuku's point of view, and he's narrating all of it from the future, right?? Because of this, many people like to speculate that in the final arc we'll skip ahead in the future, where Horikoshi will do a major plot-twist and make adult Izuku, who has been narrating this story,be the final villain.
Well,Izuku is the ninth OFA user, and this villain is called Nine.Coincidence?
note that on the part on how he broke his mouth,it wasn't because of hot donuts,it was because he stuffed so many donuts in his mouth at once that his cheeks literally ripped off.(and that, everyone,is how you do the chubby bunny challenge the HARDCORE way)
Popping in to say that with this latest 6th episode, the first arc of Dr. Stone is over in the anime.
If ayone wanted to try it but wan't sure if they'd like it or not,you can now binge watch these 6 episodes. If you found this arc interesting,it only gets better from now on,if you didn't,then probably this series is not for you.
There's quite a few interesting implications about the future of the canon story, and the biggest one of them is basically another one of Oda's massive trolls(because of course it is).If you're ok with me talking about it in more detail,I'll only mention the stuff that has to do with the future of the canon story, not anything relating to the main plot of the movie
Hey look at that,it's the same sword grade explanation we got all the way back in Lougetown. It took only what,20 years? for that explanation to become relevant again? Now if we could only get the Tashigi-Kuina connection to be relevant, that'd be great,I'm still waiting for an explanation for that.
And look at Luffy trying to hold that sword.Put the sword down Luffy, everyone knows you don't know how to use it,you're not fooling anybody
On a note,I just emembered, we had "Wano" fillers a while ago (japanese themed episodes). I should go back nd compare the character designs and see if there is some similarities with current Wano ones.
are you talking about the pre-timeskip one?I highly doubt Oda prepared things that much in advance. At most the designs might look similar to the ones from 1 pre-timeskip colospread we got, with the strawhats in kimonos and 2 dragons flying around(possibly foreshadowing for Momo and Kaido??)
Also,we already know some of the 12 Saijo O Wazamono swords.
The first kitestu blade is one of them,Mihawk's sword is one of them, and WB's polearm was one of them too(I don't know how that classifies as a sword, but sure,I'll roll with it)
I wonder how the Jump Force games would look if they used Arc System's engine instead of standard 3D. That way each character can stay true to it's original artstyle and won't look like they have lightbulbs for eyes lol
so,now you've seen Hawkins DF.I think this is one of the more unique ones we've seen so far. Also,in the manga it wasn't clear whether those tarot cards are regular cards, and Hawkins is just obeying them because of his beliefs,or if those cards actually have some supernatural powers. Now with the anime it's clear it's the latter, but this brings up another question:how do those cards work?are their powers part of the DF,or is it something else entirely?
Poor Zorojuro,he didn't actually get to see the Nidai Kitetsu.Maybe next time
Also side note,I won't go into details but with the latest manga chapter,it's pretty clear Luffy doesn't have any chance of defeating Kaido as he is right now. He's gonna need some major powerup(DF awakening maybe?that'd be cool)
you mean the floating cards?I'm pretty sure everyone can see those
They made Zoro use ichi gorilla ni gorilla, man that's a callback.I'm pretty sure the only time when he used that move in the manga was in enies lobby against Kaku, and every other time it was anime only.I like that they make characters use old moves in these filler scenes, hope they keep doing this in the future.
Lol,when Zoro said "let's go right",I immediately thought "ok,you need to go left".C'mon Luffy,Zoro has a terrible sense of direction, you should know that by now.
I like what the voice actor is doing with O-Kiku's voice,it's really fitting for her.
Oh look,O-Tama is eating oshiruko in the next ep.You better remember the name of that food :P
Aight,I went on a trip last week, which is why I haven't posted any messages.
I have now returned home and caught up with all the things I missed while I was gone(or,well, most of them),so now let's get back to our regular talks(also you can expect a new disscussion pretty soon,it might even be up by the time you read this...)
Last week some japanese youtubers visited Oda's studio and had an interview with him.Oda said that the major event with the grandfleet foreshadowed at the end of Dressrosa will happen soon(most likely strawhat grandfleet vs beast pirates),and the he thinks he can finish the story in the next 5 years(tho every time we've gotten approximations like this the manga lasted longer than that,so take it with a grain of salt) link
for the latest episode(featuring Batman):
eyy look at that, episode 900.Congrats Toei.
O-Tama is best daughter, can we all agree with that? She's too precious
Damn, look at that size difference between Zorojuro and O-kiku.And also that pronoun she used(which is an old japanese pronoun used by men).Hmmmmm.................
Lol,batman's arrow cna stay still in midair. In the manga it just looked like a regular arrow,so it's interesting to see that batman has some sort of control over them
Don't worry,he doesn't really make an appearance after this, unless Toei adds some filler scenes with him. Also, now that I mentioned it,I wonder how those arrow powers works, since he's supposed to only have a bat smile.I know that I shouldn't really think too much about the extra things the anime adds, but I'm still curious.
Also forgot to mention this, but yay, best girl is finally getting some development in the latest Fruits Basket episode
just checked the manga, that scene wasn't in the original;after they jumped on the komainu they just left batman behind.
it's just a scene that's supposed to look cool and pad out the episode length, like zorojuro blocking all the hits of the strawman with ichi gorilla ni gorilla instead of just cutting it down from the beginning,or how the snakeman transformation looked like luffy was being possesed by some sort of snake spirit.Just enjoy the cool visuals and don't think too much into it.
EDIT: speaking of the komainu,in the most recent sbs Oda said that the "koma" animals (as in,animals with flame-like fur) are a whole species that's native to Wano,so expect to see more animals like the komainu as the arc progresses.
Im reading a bunch of fan disscussions, theories, and explanations about the recent infinity war plot twist with the time shenanigans, and I have to say, this is a lot more complex than I first thought.
You know how I get really excited over Oda doing some crazy plot twist, only to find out later that that plot twist was foreshadowed and hinted at a lot of chapters ago?Well,Iseyama did the same thing here, there's hints in CHAPTER 1 that this was going to happen,he had all of planned out from the beginning. Also it seems like there's more things going on that we aren't aware of yet,we still don't have the full picture as to what is happening.
I'm telling you,if the anime doesn't come back, you HAVE TO read the manga. You can't just pass up on all of this craziness
the chapter was trending in multiple countries,I also heard that it was trending in GB
The last time I can think of when the OP manga seeped into the mainstream for a bit like this was when the disscussion post for the chapter with the giant strawhat got so many upvotes that it featured on the front page of the Site That Must Not Be Named
I do find that part where people find it shocking a bit forced given they've seen all sorts of supernatural things happen, they know it's Kyo, but we need to remind the viewers of what the theme is lol
Plus they couldn't just leave O-kiku there,if anything blame Zoro for suddenly having morals on who he's allowed to cut.
They made Luffy's emperor's gold now,interesting
Oooh,I like the extra sumo fight scenes,it's interesting to see them use a different fighting style
did you see that flying roof top above the sumo ring? When we first saw that in the manga, peolpe thought it was actually flying, and since there's no regular way to make things float in the air like that, people started thinking that Shiki did that and we'd finally see him in the canon story.Later,Oda said in an SBS that the roof is a like a kite, and it's being held down by some strings.I liked the Shiki idea more, introduce him in the story already,Oda :p
So Kanata no Astra(eng name:Astra lost in space) has ended.I have to say,I enjoyed this anime a lot more than I thought I would.
The story is really interesting. It's about a bunch of kids that went on a trip to another planet, only to be swallowed by a giant ball of light that appeared out of nowhere and teleported them into space, far, far away from the planet they were on previously. The kids manage to get on a ship that was floating in space, and start their journey to get back home.
Even tho it's technically a scifi show, the story is mostly character-focused.The scifi elements are mostly there just for the setting, but they're never the primary focus, which was a really nice surprise, since Im not really into scifi shows.
The plot is really interesting, and it's full of mysteries and plot twists(pretty much every episode has a couple of huge revelations/plot twists). One thing that I appreciated a lot watching this last episode is that they managed to tie up all the loose ends and wrap everything up together in a satisfying way.Usually when I watch shows that rely a lot on mysteries and plot twists, when it comes to delivering on all that setup they never manage to do it in a satisfying way,and the show just gets an anticlimactic ending, but Astra managed to have an ending that explained pretty much everything and ended things off in a satisfying way, which I really liked and appreciated.
Now granted, this latest chapter was ABSOLUTELY CRAZY,so I sorta expected it.
Now I know we still have a few months left,so I might be eating my words in the near future, but I really want to say that this was chapter of the year.So much information,so many HUGE revelations,it was absolutely crazy.I screamed IRL multiple times while reading it,and I actually had to read the chapter twice just to fully take everything in,that's how much info was stuffed in those 18 pages.Oda is the absolute maddest of lads.
the FB episode was great,it has a lot more character development that I said was lacking in the last episode, and it also foreshadowed quite a lot for the second season.Probably one of the best ways to end a season I've seen in a while.
Strange thought: could Dr Stone be considered an isekai? I mean, Senku goes from our world to a new world, he's OP (via brains rather than brawn, but still), he's got a party of people from that world helping him, etc.
(also, apparently Sonic X counts as isekai, who knew)
yeah,I've seen people call it stuff like "isekai that you didn't realise it's an isekai".Never thought about it until I saw other people bring it up,since the plot itself is so different from your average isekai
Also side-note,but the current Dr. Stone manga arc is really freaking good and if you're enjoying the anime right now,you should totally catch up with the manga once the season is over.I'm not gonna go into any details, but we're close to finding out how the petrification beam works and where it came from(hopefully)
lol ye,I caught up with One Piece by binging the anime,(when I caught up with it the most recent ep was the last episode of Dressrosa),then picked up the manga at the start of Zou(I think the first chapter I read was when Weevil is introduced IIRC)
Kimetsu no Yaiba just ended, and godamn, this whole anime was an experience
The premise of the story is that the protagonist, who lives in the country with his family, comes back home one day only to find that his whole family was killed by demons, apart from his sister, who has survived the attack but was turned into a demon.Because of this, the protagonist starts training to become a demon slayer(a person who's specifially trained to hunt and kill demons),and goes on a journey to find a way to turn his sister back into a human and kill the demon who killed his family.
Now,Kimetsu isn't really groundbreaking in any of its ideas(and well, let's be honest,at this point most shonens aren't),but it executes those ideas really well, and on top of that the animation for the anime is absolutely beautiful,by far the best animation for a shonen I've seen in years(the animation was made by UFOtable, the studio that made Fate/Zero).So if you want a pretty good shonen with a REALLY high production value,I'd definitely recommend it.
okay, watched the episode and checked the chapters. It turns out Okiku's lines were there in the manga,I just forgot about them. And yea,it is supposed to be a facade(she's just not very good at keeping it up :P),if you want to I can give you more details,it is technically a spoiler, but it's a pretty minor one.
And oh hey, they're adapting the 2nd one shot.Fun fact about that one,the reason why Garp is the one giving Luffy the fruit and the hat is because,by the time this last one shot was made,Jump had already decided to make One Piece a full-fledged series, and because of that Oda didn't want to spoil the readers by revealing Shanks in this one shot,so he replaced him with Garp
Oda went through a bunch of designs for Luffy's female companion:first we had Silk, then Ann,and even Nami went through a few redesigns.
It's safe to say that Nami was the first crewmate Oda designed. She appeared on the cover of the first chapter with Luffy(but no Zoro),and Zoro originally wasn't even meant to be a crewmate,he was meant to be part of the crew of the true God himself,Buggy-sama,and would have served as the "elder brother" archetype for the other crew members, but later on in the story planning Oda made him a main character instead
Actually,HxH is one of the most popular shonen of all time. When it comes to anime ,it's safe to say it's the most well beloved shonen ever, because it's the only long shonen anime that has consistent,movie-quality animation(I still don't know how Madhouse managed to do that),and doesn't have any fillers or pacing issues like other adaptations do(heck, the HxH anime arguably improved the original manga scenes)
The first arc will seem similar to the Chuunins exams to you, that's because the author of HunterxHunter and Kishimoto, the author of Naruto, are friends IRL,so early on they helped each other with ideas. You'll see the story will get more original later on.
I don't like HxH as much as other people do(but don't get me wrong,I still do like it),mainly because its story arcs are for the most part self-contained stories, and I prefer something with an overarching narrative, like Naruto or One Piece, much, much more(when it comes to shows in general,I care a lot about the plot, probably more than the average person does)
If you want to,after you catch up with the anime, you can catch up with the manga too VERY easily.Togashi, the author of HxH(also the author of Yu Yu Hakusho, and he's also married to the author of Sailor Moon, just a fun fact :P),is notorious for going on really long hiatuses really often(at first he said it was due to back problems, but later on we found out that he's apparently fine but still on hiatus),the manga hasn't progressed a whole lot since the anime ended,I think there's only 50 or so more chapter you'd have to read,so you can catch up to it in a couple days.Togashi usually comes back once a year, writes enough chapters so a volume can be published(so he can make money off of it),then goes on hiatus again for at least another year,if not more. He's also a big Dragon Quest fan,so fans like to joke that the real reason he goes on hiatus so often is because he can't stop playing Dragon Quest :P
As a final note,RogersBase, that One Piece youtuber I mentioned a few times before, has been trying to diversify, and one of the non-One Piece things he did lately was a whole HxH watchthrough on Twitch. He edited all the best bits of his watchtruough and made them into youtube highlight videos. You can watch them here.Since now you're binging the anime yourself, you could watch these videos while you're experiencing the show yourself,it would be like having a watch buddy with you :P.I watched all of them weekly as he was uploading them, and IMO,they're pretty good :P
EDIT:HOlY ARCEUS this turned out waayy longer than expected.Sorry for the wall of text, hopefully you'll find at least one thing here that's interesting/funny/useful.
To be fair, credit where credit's due,HxH is probably one of the most original shonens when it comes to ideas. You'll see later on what I mean,it's just the first 2 arcs or so that are a bit generic for today's standards(but not in a bad way)
hmmmmm, actually,I wonder if part of the reason why pokemon Go did that strawhat pikachu thing was because Oda plays the game :P
Yeah,to be completely honest when I first got into academia I didn't think it was that great of a series(and I'm still not super-duper impressed by it).I feel like the reason why most people got so crazy over it is because they don't watch shonens/anime in general that often.I had already watched Naruto, like half of Fairy Tail,HxH,One Piece, and watched/read a bunch of other smaller shonens before I got into Academia,so it didn't impress me nearly as much as it did other people(main thing I remember that I liked about is how different Izuku was as a protagonist). Now granted,as I said with HxH,I still like Academia(I like it enough to read the manga weekly),just not as much as most people seem to like it.
Oh I'm not looking down on anything, I'm just pointing out how you can see the evolution of shonen anime lol
lol @Pikachu, maybe it was
What I love about MHA is the emotion, it might be tame as far as shonen anime go, but man does make you feel it. For example, Allmight, he didn't seem all that great, but by the time he fights AFO, man, you can just tell, he is a hero.
Ye,to be fair that AFO fight is pretty much my favorite moment in the entire series, that fight really made me feel for All Might. But this moment might be dethroned by all the My Villain Academia stuff that happened recently in the manga,I'll have to see how this plotline ends before saying for certain
Oh,are you actually checking the new anime this season? Now that I've got uni to deal with I don't really have the time to try out all of them anymore,so I'll most likely wait to see if the internet starts going crazy over any of them before I watch any
here you go.Read all of Artur's tweets that have the buster call hashtag, and those above them for an explanation
Im curious about the devil fruit tree one.I get that these are just art pieces, but they were offically sanctioned by Oda,so wouldn't this be confirmation that devil fruits come from a devil fruit tree?
The plot is self contained, but it does have references to some whole story plotpoints (like, who the big bad is and what his plan is, but you'll get a few "reminders" throught the episodes).
But based on the 1st episode, if you can get through the first few minutes of general FGO exposition (which if you watched the 1st FGO OVA should make 80% sense), all is well. Watching episode 0 of Babylonia can help as well, but it might add more questions then solve them since it runs on the assumption you know Mash's and Roman's background a bit.
So, in short, watch the 1st ep and see if you can follow what's going on. If you can, then yes, epic journey awaits. I do suggest you watch the OVA/movie (First Order) first tho if you haven't.
I'm binging my way through the kimetsu manga right now,and this fight Im at right now is just out of this world. It is unbelievably intense, literally my whole body is tense right now just from reading it.
It is that really rare type of shonen fight that focuses more on the opponents constantly outstmarting each other rather than just getting some sort of power up to finish each other off.The main character tries to attack the villain, but the villain is super strong and dodges/tanks all the attacks,so the protag comes out with some sort of trick to get past his defenses, but then it turns out that trick doesn't work on the demon, which counterattacks with an even stronger attack, then the protag comes up with a new trick to gain the upper hand, but then it turns out it wasn't enough to kill the villain, and it just constantly keeps going back and forth like that,to the point that you aren't even sure who's gonna win anymore.
I literally haven't seen a shonen fight like this since the pre-timeskip Naruto fights. It is soooooo freaking good
depends on how you define long running. It currently has 177 chapters and it's still going weekly in jump,so IMO it is a long running shonen.
finally got around to watching the OP episode(tried to yesterday but fell asleep halfway through).
Damn,Zorojuro and Luffytaro were really having a neck-crackling contest before the fight, weren't they?I swear,Toei finds the weirdest ways to drag out an episode.
hmmmm,Im fairly certain the whole fight scene with all that fodder was filler. All I remember from the manga when it comes to this scene was Luffy Red Hawk-ing Holdem in the belly/lion's face?? ,taking O-tama,and running away with the cart.
Oooohhhh,I wonder who this totally mysterious guy with a basket on his head is.There's absolutely no way to tell what his identity is
Nah,nah, nah,my dear friend, your thinking is way too linear.
you see,Araki is not only an immortal vampire, but a time-traveling one,and when he traveled to our era for the first time and saw the aboslutely life-changing majesty that is brook's existence,he was so awe-struck that he decided to create a whole story based around one of his many powers.
So Brook is not a Jojo reference, the whole story of Jojo is a Brook reference, because Brook is not just a simple character,he is a way of life.
damn,in the beginning they showed a couple characters that appeared relatively recently in the manga,it's gonna be a long time till the anime reaches that point.
I wonder if,because of this, this movie will be something like The Last and will be the canon ending for the story
EDIT:Just read the latest manga chapter, and holy cow,it really feels like they're building up to the final arc.I kinda expected Academia to still keep going after One Piece ends, but it seems like it's gonna end relatively soon.So maybe the idea of ending it with the movie is not that farfetched after all?
OH WOW,in the latest Dr Stone episode the studio actually hired an american singer to sing the english song that celebrity sings in this part of the story.Im really impressed, usually when it comes to songs like these they just make japanese lyrics and sing the song in japanese
that's actually an interesting way to adapt a manga arc.I wonder if people will complain that they have to watch a movie to see how the story continues(since movies are more difficult to find than episodes)
Sooo I have FINALLY caught up with all the anime I watch.I think I've watched 11 or 12 eps today,I literally haven't watched so many eps in 1 day in literal years.
so,for the special romance dawn adaptation:
I really liked how good the animation and pacing were.It really shows how good Toei can be when they don't have to worry about catching up with the manga.
Also I really liked how they put a lot of accent on the downside of eating a devil fruit,it made it seems like a much more riskier deal than what it seems in the main story, where DFs are basically just free super powers at this point.I also liked how they saved the reveal of Luffy's rubber powers for the actual fight,it made everything that much more exciting
for the wano ep,this is the end of the Holdem Otama mini arc, woohoo!!Now we can get to the actual good stuff!!Also, during that scene where zoro and co bring the food cart to leftovers town, you could see a mother holding her kid and praying. That scene was actually censored,in the manga the mother was crying, holding the kid in 1 hand, had a knife pointing at the kid in the other hand, and there was an empty noose hanging in the background.Remember that the whole town was dying because of starvation.Im sure you can figure out what would have happened if the crew would have been a few minutes late with the food cart.Man,Oda can be really dark in the most unexpected moments....
And in the next ep you will finally see one of the BIG plot twists of the Wano arc!!!and thankfully,it's one that the opening didn't actually spoil,so it should be a total surprise. And the preview didn't spoil it either, would you look at that! So,are you ready to talk with the undead?? :O
Did somebody eat a rotten spiky fruit? They're the ultimate mcguffin.
Anyway, just remembered, I know we kinda had an aztec vibe in Skypiea, but given how BB (probably) got his extra fruit power and how Big M got hers, I was wondering if the "Devil" from who the fruits came is some aztec god (eating the hearts of people and getting their powers and all).
rotten spiky fruit?I feel like Im missing a reference or something
a few things about that theory:
1)there's actually a realllyyyyyy old theory in the community saying that devil fruit powers are soul powers, and some sort of machine(maybe an ancient weapon)can take the souls of people and inject them into fruits. The theory itself doesn't have any solid evindence behind it,but the idea came from zoro's asura and sanji's diable jambe. Those 2 are devil fruit-like abilities that didn't come from devil fruits, and to this day we still have no idea where they came from,so who knows, maybe soul powers are an actual thing that will get introduced later as a 3rd power system. Thanks to this romance dawn one shot,we know that Oda has thought about introducing stuff like magic spells into the story in the past :P
2)I personally never really liked the idea that BB just took a bite of WB and got the powers that way.If that's the only thing going on,the 1 fruit/person rule should still apply and he should have still died.Even if you want to say that's how he got the power, there's gotta be something *more* going on to allow him to have 2 powers at the same time without dying. Now for what might allow that to happen, here's another theory:
Maybe fruits aren't 1/person,but 1/soul,and BB is actually multiple souls stuck in the same body. Now for evidence of this, the main things I can point to are some stuff that we learned all the way back during the beginning of Skypia(which you also mentioned, would you look at that :D).
during that time ,we see BB's jolly roger for the first time, and the unique thing about it is that it has 3 skulls on it.Now ,jolly rogers in One Piece usually reflect something important about the captain of the crew, like how the strawhats have a skull with a strawhat ,the heart pirates one looks similar to the doffy family symbol, probably as a tribute to corazon and a mocking of doffy, big mom has a bunch of sweets around it etc etc.You could point this out for every single jolly roger. Now,with that in mind, how is 3 skeletons(which implies 3 persons)relevant with BB in any way?how does 3 people represent BB?
second piece of evidence is with Luffy and BB's encounter a bit later on in the arc(the one where BB says man's dreams never die).Luffy,Zoro and Nami are walking on the street,Nami sees that BB is alone and walking behind them and says "oh hey,it's him again".Now,while still looking the the opposite direction, without looking at BB at all, both Luffy and Zoro say at the same time "it's not him,it's them".Now think about this,Luffy and Zoro didn't look at BB at all,but they felt the presence of multiple people.(also side note, but this feeling the presence thing was probably an example of them manifesting an early form of observation haki.Another early example is when Zoro threw Sandai Kitetsu in the air in Louge Town but avoided the blade by feeling its presence)
EDIT:another smaller bit of evidence is that BB's personality is very volatile. We've seen him go from being really confident/cocky to being a total coward in the span of seconds.Almost as if he has multiple personalities.....
Ye,that scene in Impel Down was the main thing I was thinking of.
Also,I wouldn't be too surprised if one of the reasons Oda introduced Brook(and more recently,Big Mom and homies) is just to introduce the idea of souls into the story so he can use it for when we finally get that devil fruit explanation we were promised to get eventually(like,3000 years ago)
ah lol,I thought that might be it but the spiky part threw me off :P.I mean,do you want me to answer that question? You're gonna find out in a couple days anyways. So inteasd of me spoiling you, here's a better idea:what do you think is happening with Kinemon and co?
Huh,I never thought about that before:with regular living beings they age and die ,but how does that work for homies?do they just get to live forever once they are created,or does big mom need to regularly supply them with more souls to keep them alive?
I thought they might dissapear once the creator is gone, but Prometeus lives, so guess not (unless he instantly transfered over). Guess we'll know if Mom kicks the bucket.
Also lol, we have a lot of similar cases, Moria's zombies don't exacty use souls, but they do animate what should be dead, at the very least, memories are partially around, but that might due to the body.
Small correction:the sun Mother Caramel made and Prometeus are different(they had different names, and we know Prometeus has part of big mom's soul). We don't really know what happened with the first sun,but since Caramel died, probably it died at as well.
also regarding Moriah's zombies, there's one thing I never really understood:which part does the zombie get its personality from, the body or the shadow? With Oars he was basically just Luffy, but then with Ryuma he still acted like a samurai even tho he had Brook's shadow,so how's that supposed to work?I saw an idea that maybe Brook's shadow just saw that it was inside the body of a samurai,so it just decided to play the part and pretend that it's an actual samurai, but idk, that sounds kinda out there
Oyabun is leader of the yakuza, in anime, it's often just used for as "boss" by lackies, tho in this case, a certain shark merman is rather yakuza-like and his friends call him that. You said he was probably turned into a homie.
Oh,did they really call him that?Guess it shows how I didn't watch the whole cake anime.I don't really see jinbe as a yakuza member, but alright I guess.(also funny you mentioned the yakuza, since we're in wano, the country based on japan *hint**hint*)
Well,we still don't know what happened to him,we just assume he got turned into a homie cause otherwise this whole staying behind in Whole Cake thing would have been completely pointless and a repeat of the ending of fishman island from a storytelling perspective.
and regarding the memory thing, now that I actually think about it,I have no idea how that works. If big mom takes the entire soul from a person and makes a homie with it,does that homie retain the personality/memories from when it was human?if not ,what happens to all that info?does it dissapear into the ether or does it remain stored inside the subconsciousness?
Im trying to think of examples of that:zeus, prometheus and napoleon all seem to have distinct personalities from big mom,at most retaining some of her basic traits(like being attracted to food). At the same time they only have fragments of her soul,so it wouldn't be exactly the same as what we assume happened with jinbe. When Pedro got his lifespan stolen,he still retained all his memories, but we don't know what happened with the homie that was made with the stolen lifespan(also sidenote, but I fully believe Pedro's homie was that muskeeter rabbit we met in the woods, but Oda scrapped that whole side plot due to wanting to end the arc faster. When the rabbit and Pedro first clash,he has a really weird reaction to it,as if he realised something weird about the rabbit after looking at it.We never got an explanation as to why he reacted in that way)
Given that one of the tree homies started acting like an old man after Pudding awoke it's memories, I'd say the souls are simply meant to provide fuel, but they do contain some form of information, similar to Moria's shadows. Now, whether or not their personalities are original (which is possible given that all the homies Mom made acted similary, especially if she makes multiple of the same type) or if they just have the character traits of the soul, who knows.
Oh yeah,I completely forgot about that whole scene!!Hmmmmm that's an interesting idea actually, but because of some Wano stuff that happens a bit later on, I don't think it is that likely to happen unfortunately.Unless Oda does one of his famous unexpected last minute plot twists and turns everything around, which is totally possible :P
Also Also, funny you mentioned kaido and rocks.Back when kaido was first introduced, fans were speculating on ways he could kill himself:
what if he starves himself to death?
if he has a devil fruit, what if he throws himself in the oceans and drowns while being immobilized
what if he eats a ton of poison?
then when wano started, speculation on how the ninja-pirate-mink-samurai alliance(still love that name btw) could defeat kaido:
what if Law uses the immortality surgery to remove his invincibiliy?(do you know about that theory btw?I can go more into detail if you want to)
what if Law just shambles him up,thus making him unable to fight?
what if Law heart swaps him with a random fodder and then kill him while he's in that body?
Well,one of the ideas was:
WHAT IF WE THROW A PONEGLYPH ON HIM???!!! Kaido's body is resistant to all damage, poneglyphs are unbreakable, then you have yourself the unstoppable force vs immovable object dillema. One of them has to break, right?
Been a while since I was on Nux's channel, so even he embraced the darkness lol
I take it that the only way to kill Kaido is to destroy his body, everything will cause him pain, but won't kill him. Now the question is, will jumping into a volcano actually do the trick or will he swim through it lol
oh,so you havent the whole taihen thing he had going on?big oof, those videos are gone now(for obvious reasons lol)
Well,I'm still waiting until we learn more about Kaido's situation before I say anything on it.It still seems really weird to me that he wants to die,but he hasn't starved himself or thrown himself in the sea.Like,it seems pretty easy to commit not alive if you're a devil fruit user.
Damn ,they added a whole other character to explain how zoro got separated from the group. In the manga he was traveling on another animal and somehow got lost on the way to the castle.while staying completely still on the back of that animal.Like, how do you get lost while staying still???!!!!
Oh well,I guess making him fight with a tiger with a katana works too.
Also that scene with the history propaganda didn't have that old guy listening in on it in the manga. You just saw the teacher(which was confirmed to be a smile user, but for some reason she doesn't have the black horns) teaching the kids a warpped version of history, and you were left to take your own conclusions from that.I kinda liked how subtle the whole scene was.
And now for the big plot twist,Oda actually dropped quite a few hints to this before the reveal, and a lot of theories were made about it:
since we entered wano everyone was saying the kozuki clan died a long time ago,but kinemon and co. were acting as if kaido's takeover only happened a few months ago
in zou momo said he met roger when he was a baby, but roger died 24 years ago,and momo is just 8,so it shouldnt be possible
Hitetsu (who is most likely related to the kozuki clan in some way) said he's been waiting for someone for a long time, and O-tama said "when the kozuki back comes back".a few months like kinemon was acting as doesn't really sound like a very long time.
Momo said that Inu and Neko used to be good friends, which implies he had seen them together in the past, but on Zou we found out that they've been at odds with each other for a really long time(before carrot was born, and when pedro and wanda were just kids)
back on zou, kinemon was surprised inu and neko were still alive, and they mentioned something about "the words from that day"
Inu and neko knew about Oden's last words, even tho he supposedly died only a few months ago while they were on zou,the timeline just wasn't matching up
now, most of the theorists I saw didn't think of time travel as an explanation. Here's a video made by Marco, one of my vaforite OP theorists, taht was made literally a few days before the chapter where we learned that they time traveled was released. His idea was a bit off,but pretty close nonetheless:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1ZYrTWakJs
(marco's video's are really good,I highly reccommend watching at least this one. He's a really good content creator, and unlike most other theorists,he always manages to come up with unique ideas)
I mean,we already knew devil fruits can do potentially anything, the only thing Oda has straight up confirmed will never be in the story is an ability that let's you control water, cause that'd be too OP.Other than that, the possibilities are endless :P
I find that the best thing to do to get out of that void is to quickly fill it with something else,so you forget about it.Now what that something else might be it entirely depends on what you're in the mood for and how much time you have.
For anime I feel like I've given you a bunch of reccomandations from the past seasons:Neverland,Kimetsu,Astra,Kaguya to name a few.I could come up with more suggestions if you feel like watching something in particular
For games honestly idk, with all this buzz around blizzard and the launch of classic wow I've been in an wow mood for a while, but I don't wanna pay for a subscribtion, all the vanilla private servers are more or less dead now,and with uni I don't really have the time to invest into an mmo anyways :\
With all the leaks,Im also in a pokemon mood rn,but since I doubt I'll be getting a switch anytime soon Idk really know what to play.I could try playing a fan game,I could try to do a nuzlocke,or I could play one of the official games I never got around to finishing.Im really undecided on that
I've also been trying to play Bravely Default, but progress has been really slow so far due to me being really undecisive on how to spend my free time.I've just finished the prolouge today.
@Juca: Kimetsu is over I hear, so might try that, if something is mainstream popular, I'll most probably love it :P
Well, similar here, I'm partially always depresed because I have limited time due to my job, so I never feel like starting something. I usually watch/play something out of nostalgia, but I need to try something new lol I do want to play Carcass Fiesta 2, but with only chapter 1 released atm, it would be a long wait for the rest.
@Xoph: HxH? Yeah, definitelly one of the best shonen shows I've seen. In fact, now I can't recommend other shonen shows because after this one, all feel bleak lol Not that they're bad, but this is just one special kind of a beast.
@Necro: that is in fact on my 2Play list, but isn't that a Nintendo game?
Ah, that reminds me, I need to check if several games got patched.
Cutesy art (actually, chibi art) was part why I wasn't able to take Blood Drive completely seriously (other part was two characters that looked like they were meant to be in World Ends With You but didn't get the memo, sticked out like a sore thumb lol), but given this is a complete world like that, I will enjoy it.
Reason why I'm looking forward to playing Skelter and that Labyrinth game whose name I can't remember, they're also cute and dark. Did I mention Madoka is one of my favorite anime?
On a random note, I kinda forgot if it was you I talked to about this manga, but Franken Fran Frantic, the sequel to the original manga is looking pretty good so far, and it's been updating about once a month, it's something cool to look forward to.
Gavrail is a better tsundere than Mordred, fyte meh
I told you the main premise is nothing special,it's just really well executed(but to be fair,it does get more unique and interesting in the later arcs, especially in the manga).Couple that with a high production value, and you got yourself a hit with the mainstream audience
also I can't remember whether I've said that here, but instead of a season 2 the next manga arc will be adapted into a movie
there's a bunch of stuff, read all of Artur's recent tweets if you wanna see everything.Major points:
the editor now goes back on what he said a few months ago,and says that now he thinks OP can end in 5 years, judging by the pace Wano is going at.He encourages people to read OP while it's still going, because it won't last for too much longer.
Wano will reveal some major plot points related to the final arc, including some stuff about roger, raftel, and a hint as to what the op treasure really is
that major reveal in the stampede movie is comfirmed to be canon, and it was Oda's decision to include it into the movie, because he wanted to put an end to the notion that major reveals can only happen in the main story
There's a bunch more details,so I encourage you to go read artur's tweets to see everything
I mean,if you wanna look at it that way?Tho people can find the reveal on the internet, like,if you don't wanna watch the movie I don't think that 1 reveal by itself is good enough incentive to make you wanna watch it.
It also bothers me that he said that, when we've been getting non-main story canon reveals for years.Did he forget that SBS-es are a thing?Or all the databooks?
Also this past month I've started reading Bleach.Right now Im at the climax of the Soul Society arc(right when Ichigo saves Rukia and starts fighting Byakuya)and OMG this arc is top shonen material.Like,it's been a reaallly looong time since an arc has gotten me so invested and so hype for the story,I can't even think of the last time I've felt like this.Maybe during Enies Lobby?Maybe during the Chunnin Exams?I really don't know, this arc is soo good I'm having a hard time comparing it to something else in terms of quality.
Too bad the story goes downhill from here(or at least that's what I've heard),but at the same time I'm not really sure how you top this.
Blame Kubo's amazing writing. Soul Society arc was so popular the editor said "do it again" and forced him to make Hueco Mundo arc basically the same plotline. Then they said they wanted him to show all the battles, ALL of them, and that dragged the story on even more. Like seriously, the fodder all gets chapters dedicated to their battles.
Basically Kubo can't say no to his editor. That being said, it's only bad by Bleach standards, still pretty good compared to other series. At least you're reading it, the anime goes hard on the filler.
You can just skip the Fullbring arc when you get there though, it doesn't matter.
sooo, there was another interview with one of the anime producers.Copy-pasting:
So during the Saudi Anime Expo, Shinji Shimizu revealed some big info about the future of One Piece and some info with the anime and here are the big things that he said during this interview:
- Toei Animation senior director and producer said he knows the One Piece Treasure and at the end of the story the fans will be sadder and more impactful than Ace's death, at the end of Wano arc fans will have information and picture about what One Piece is.
- He also said that he can triple confirm that One Piece will end in 5 years along with Oda and his editor.
- He also hyped up the Luffy vs Kaido fight for the anime and in MY opinion I think it may be better than the Snakeman vs Katakuri fight because of how much he hyped it which is special.
- He also said “Yes I would love to do the cover stories in the anime however at the moment we are very busy with how eventful the wano arc adaption is going but hopefully we will get to them in the future.”
There's one more thing that was said, but I excluded it cause it has something to do with a manga spoiler.Whenever the anime reaches the next big plot twist(as in,a plot twist that hasn't been spoiled already in the opening),remind me of this and I'll post it
it's like 95% something that has to do with the ancient kingdom.Maybe a poneglyph detailling all of its history, and how it was destroyed?maybe it's an object that was of great importance for the kingdom?Heck, maybe it's the mystical devil fruit tree that we know Oda at least considered to be a thing in the story in its early stages
Fun fact, Gex was created to be the brand mascot for the 3DO similar to Mario for Nintendo or Crash for PS1, but they dropped that plan when they realized the 3DO is the 3DO. Gex 1 was never ported to N64 because of that though.
Same applies here, even if you try to get a Switch online fwhich in theory would be cheaper shipping costs will end up leaving the price more or less the same as the store price so might as well buy it from the store.
People are like "dude what sort of whiner doesn't buy a pokemon game because no national dex" and I reply "the kind who would have to buy a $500 console to play it on". The Switch is just not worth it for that money.
Nintendo did bring a lot of games you can find on other consoles to the shop, so it's tempting to buy it instead of a PS, but, aside from those multiplatform games, Nintendo doesn't really have any games I like (they usually stick to their tested&true franchise title, out of which I am only fond of Pokemon).
PS5 should be upon us withing the next 2 years (speculated around next Christmas) so guess I'll wait tho.
From what I can tell (and by that I mean check Amazon prices) a regular Switch in USA is around $300 for a base model without any bundles and the Lite model around $200.
Importing stuff to my country is freaking expensive so everything is way overpriced, but if you try to order it online you end up paying the importing and shipping prices. Big reason I can't order singles for decks often.
Rex is right. Those are the prices in the US. Also, Nintendo often sells bundles where in they provide download codes for $60 games for free.
And wasn’t the 3DS $200 at the time XY released? Why weren’t people trotting out that excuse then? It was the same price as a Switch Lite is now, with a worse library then, at that.
Oh wait, I know why. Because it had a National Dex. Can people stop trying to find any excuse other than the Dex? Feel free to go “I don’t have the money to buy such luxuries”, but don’t act like XY was so much easier to purchase. This is directed at people in general and not a specific person, especially if said person has less money now than they did then.
No idea if you're right about the cost of a 3DS back then, but I already had a 3DS, and no reason not to buy X and Y. I do not currently have a Switch, and I have several very good reasons to not buy Sword and Shield. That is the difference. Furthermore, Sword and Shield is $60 and X and Y were $40 iirc.
I don't have the money to spend on it. If these games excited me then I might be able to justify allocating funding toward it. But they aren't, so I'd rather spend that money on other things.
Also I was a lot dumber back then. The me of today probably wouldn't have bought a 3DS either.
Yeah, in the US the Switch is $300, and Switch games are typically $60. When XY dropped, priced at $40, the 3DS cost at about $220, but I bought a 2DS for $120, which I think was a way better deal. Basically, you could pick up the 2DS and XY for $160, as opposed to a whopping $360 for the Switch and SwSh. I can definitely see why people are more hesitant to impulsively buy this one.
Rule of thumb you should never buy a console for just ONE game, my brother did that mistake with the Xbox 360 for Halo. I didn't pick a Switch until there were at about 10 games I wanted for it most of which were exclusives.
That being said, if you pick a Switch for SwSh you'd probably end up looking at other titles after, third party games might look slightly less pretty (which personally I don't even care about) but having them portable is a huge convenience, depending on if you'd plan to use Switch more as a handheld.
Yeah, that's a good rule of thumb. I bought a PS4 specifically for Persona 5. Granted, it turned out okay cause Spiderman killed it and got me really into PS4 games, but it was definitely a bad decision.
The Switch is probably my favorite console rn. Having console games be portable is amazing, and Nintendo just keeps porting things and I love it.
There was nothing wrong with the console, just that Sony mistreated it, wasted it potential.
I like the PC simply because it's such a multipurpose tool, they even started implementing the Playstation controller icons in PC games if you have one plugged in, so it feels close enough to having a console.
I work on a computer so when I play a game I'd like to not be in front of a computer, for that matter I aprefer playing on a handheld with headphones rather than on a TV. I also like Nintendo's IP library so the Switch is kinda perfect for myself (even though I consider PS4 to be a better platform) but I still waited until there were enough games to justify it.
My brother picked an Xbox 360 for Halo but Halo were the only Xbox exclusive games he ever owned on that Xbox, the rest were multiplatforms that were also on PS3 and he quickly realized there are a lot of PS3 games he would've liked but missed out on. That's why now he picked a PS4 and didn't even look at Xbox One.
While I like most of the new roster can't help but have mixed feelings about the Penguin. I've wanted to see a new non starter Penguin Pokemon after Empoleon but this one looks... awkward. The freaking huge ice block over it's head is weird enough, but the real head is just as weird.
Again, Sword has the only version exclusive that matters, Bea.
And the designs for the pokemon this gen are pretty good, although a lot of it seems like boxchecking first, design around box later, instead of seeming like "we had a really compelling design for a pokemon, and this type combination is a perfect fit." I'm always a little sad when pokemon seem to exist just because of boxchecking.
The reason I like the penguin is that he's basically the gen 8 version of mimikyu, and I freaking love mimikyu.the iceblock is a one time sub for physical attacks, that gets remade immediately if the weather is hail.So on a hail team ,the penguin is completely immune to all physical attacks as long as you keep the hail up.I just find the concept really interesting.
Also you guys should go on 4c lol, almost everyone there says the new mons are absolutely atrocious, that making james turner the art director was a mistake and that he should be fired because of this.
@Tyrant: It's a platformer for the PSX, which is a sequel to Neverhood (which was a point&click game). Fairly difficult, but nowhere near as hard as Rayman 1 Much like Neverhood, it stands out for it's (partially a capella, lyrics are amazing lol) and it's quirky humor. Not to mention the bosses have rather amusing deisgns (reminds me of Earthworm Jim, was probably inspired. EDIT: looking at some info, was done by the same guy lol).
Sadly, both are pretty hard to find as Neverhood never got rereleased and Skullmonkeys is one of those obscure titles that got lost to time. Youtube it is then.
So apparently someone streamed the game today, and oooh boy it doesn't look that good.It seems that's it's literally the same thing as the 3ds games, and it's arguably worse in some areas.
The wild area looks like a big empty field(think empty fields in Skyrim). It looks like what level of mons you can catch there depends on your badges,if you encounter a mon that's too high level for your badge count when attempting to throw a pokeball a message will pop up saying you can't do that.https://imgur.com/Jnp8MG2
That's really dissapointing, now high level mons are basically just glorified roadblocks, with a slight benefit that if you somehow manage to defeat one, you'll get tons of exp early on,but exp won't be a problem at all in these games because......
the exp share has not been rebalanced at all,it is as OP as it was in the previous games, but now you can't turn it off,so you're just stuck with an overleveled team for the entire game. The guy who played ONLY used his starter in battles, but his entire team was lvl 20 while the NPCs were level 15 just because of the exp share.Well, enjoy one shotting everything,I guess.
Outside the wild area, the game is still the same linear routes with a bunch of cutscenes
a bunch of the animations/sound effects are just copied from SM,so I guess that "better animations" thing is refering strictly to the cutscenes??Idk
the game doesn't have environmental battle backgrounds like the 3ds games. That grassy-foresty battle background is used for every single wild encounter.A running meme now is that on stream the guy fished for a chinchou while he was on a dock area in one of the cities, and when the battle starts the chinchou is somehow in the middle of a grassy field near a forest. Honestly I kinda find this more amusing than infuriating.https://i.imgur.com/UMDwnXT.mp4
Like,I don't get it.They kept saying that they cut out a bunch of stuff to make room for new features, but this pretty much looks like the same type of 3ds game we've been getting for the past 6 years. And not only that, but we know the game is almost as big a BoTW memory-wise,so what's all that memory being used for?Do HD models really take up that much space?Like,at this point I am genuinely confused, things aren't adding up.With how secretive they were about the game and how much they were hyping up the "new features", I was expecting more than this.
I now really want to see what the dataminers dig up in regards to all that memory usage.I need to know what's taking up so much of it.My guess is that the programmers have no idea how to optimize a console game,so all that space is just taken up by poorly-written code.
EDIT:also apparently there's no day/night cycle??Just how??
4c,everyone on there was going crazy over it.From what I understand, only the wild area and a few select routes/towns turn to nighttime ,everything else in the game stays in daytime forever.I guess we're back to gen 3 boiss.
I mean yeah, that's how it worked in gen 3,so I assume it's the same(remember that day night cycles were introduced in gen 2,but removed in gen 3,but you could still evolve mons that needed that based on the system clock.)
also ,apparently even tho they're not in the dex, there's 2 empty IDs,which implies event legends might appear later down the line as DLC.
and since some moves are out the game, pokemon home will prompt you to delete those moves before transering a mon.
I knew about the moves thing, sucks. Now any old move is on the chopping block. Although as long as there are usable equivalents for the moves (which there aren't for a lot of them) I won't complain too much. Keeping track of all the possible moves is a pain anyway, like, who needs karate chop or bubble, really?
Don't really care about Gardevoir either, I like the guardian angel lore, never cared for waifu aspects of pokemon.
here's the list of "foreign" pokemon,as in mons that are programmed in the game but are not available for now. They'll probably be distributed through events if I had to guess.IMO it's still dumb that charmander is obtainable but the other 2 starters are not .
EDIT:LEAFEON AND GLACEON EVOLVE WITH ITEMS NOW.DID THEY ACTUALLY GIVE UP ON THE CONTINUITY THING?
