The Overlords (オーバーロード Ōbārōdo) are a series of cards that include "Overlord" in their card name and are mostly members of the Kagero clan with a lone member of the archetype being of the Shadow Paladin clan. Introduced first in Trial Deck 2: Dragonic Overlord, the archetype would received its first support in Booster Set 5: Awakening of Twin Blades.
The archetype would be re-introduced in V Premium with the release of V Trial Deck 02: Toshiki Kai and received its first named support in V Mini Booster 01: PSYqualia Strife. The archetype would see an additional debut in D Standard as an Encounter ride line for the Dragon Empire nation with the release of D Booster Set 02: A Brush with the Legends.

Original Era Variant[]
Serving as Kagero's most eminent member since the clan's inception, the various forms of Dragonic Overlord focus on the ability to [Stand] after they have made an attack with differing conditions and drawbacks. The original Overlord was only able to [Stand] at the conclusion of a battle where it hit a rear-guard after paying a significant amount of counter blast and losing [Twin Drive] while it's Cross Ride, Dragonic Overlord the End is able to [Stand] after it hits any of the opponent's units without suffering a loss in drive check albeit requiring a Persona Blast to activate it's skill. Subsequent iterations of Overlord would vary between requiring to attack a rear-guard first to [Stand] (The Great, The Legend) or attacking a vanguard to [Stand] , often needing to fulfill an especial cost to do so (The Яe-birth, The Ace).
Rear-guard support for the archetype focuses primarily on searching for copies of Overlord and retiring the opponent's rear-guards, the conditions usually involving cards with Overlord in some form or another. G Standard would offer several rear-guards that activate their skills whenever the Overlord vanguard attacks, offering synergy with the archetypes penchant to [Stand] after battle. The archetype would see significicant releases during this time in the form of a Legion Leader for The End in Dragonic Overlord "The X" who is capable of searching for a copy of either of the vanguards when it performs Legion as well as an archetype-locked G guardian, Supreme Heavenly Emperor Dragon, Defeat Flare Dragon who is capable of retiring an opponent's entire back row during the battle an Overlord vanguard is attacked.
The archetype would in the last periods of G Standard gain a focus on effects that scaled based on the amount of cards in the opponent's damage zone with supporting rear-guards gaining [Power] or in the case of the G unit, Supreme Heavenly Emperor Dragon, Dragonic Overlord "The Purge" match the amount of drive checks it performed to the number of cards in the opponent's damage zone. Of particular note, Dragonic Overlord "The Destiny" is capable of retiring rear-guards possessing the Resist ability or even locked cards via it's 1st skill while The Purge is able to inflict damage to the opponent during the main phase and negate the triggers effects of the inflicted damage.
V Premium Variant[]
Re-debuting with the Kagero clan, members of the Overlord archetype once more focus on the vanguard's ability to [Stand] at the end of battle with slight variations between each version of Overlord. The V iteration of Dragonic Overlord [Stand] at the end of a battle where it's attack hit an opponent's unit, no longer limiting it to attacking rear-guards for it's skill to activate. Dragonic Overlord the End would later be released as the first Overlord capable of attacking the opponent's vanguard three times alone without additional effects at the cost of requiring the player to discard three cards and having an Overlord in soul, offering natural synergy with the Force II gift.
Dragonic Overlord "The X" serves as the card that unites the entirety of the archetype into a single, cohesive deck via it's ability to add any other Overlord from deck to soul and gain the skills of the added Overlord. This not only offers unparalleled flexibility regarding what skills the vanguard has access to, but also earlier access to any skills that require a Grade 3 in soul, allowing for devastating, early application of The Great and The End's full skills. The X also features skills that negate the disadvantages that The End suffers from via allowing the player's hand to always be regarded as zero cards for card effects and preventing it's own drive check from falling to 0 or less.
D Standard Variant[]
Introduced as the 3rd rideline for Dragon Empire, Dragonic Overlord maintains the ability to [Stand] after it has hit any of the opponent's units while also carrying a new skill where should Overlord attack an opponent's rear-guard, the opponent is unable to call cards from hand to (GC) during the battle, ensuring that Overlord as well as any boosting units on-hit skills activate. Dragonic Overlord the End would later be introduced with the ability to [Stand] at the end of a battle regardless of whether it hit or not albeit at a higher cost then the regular Dragonic Overlord. Should Dragonic Overlord be in the soul however, The End will suffer no decrease in drive checks at any point mitigating the impact of any discard costs.
