A restriction icon (制限アイコン Seigen Aicon) is an icon an ability may possess which applies a limit to that ability.
How it works[]
- Currently, all restriction icons limit how many times the ability can be used, applying the effect "During the specified duration, this ability cannot be used" after resolving the ability, where the specified duration changes depending on the icon.
- For 1/Turn (once per turn) abilities, the specified duration is "During this turn"
- For 1/Fight (once per fight), [Divine Skill] and [Unique Skill] abilities, the specified duration is "During this fight".
- If an automatic ability with a restriction icon is on stand-by, the player can choose to have it cease to exist without resolving it. This does not activate the restriction icon, and is valid even if the ability has no cost.
- Furthermore, if the game state changes after resolving an ability with a [Divine Skill] or [Unique Skill] restriction icon, the player can no longer use abilities with that same restriction icon for the rest of the game.
Old functionality[]
1/Turn automatic abilities used to work very differently from how they do now. Previously the ability would be "used up" at the first instance of the ability going on stand-by, even if the cost was not paid, or even if any "if" conditions on the card were not met. This is shown in the now-outdated reminder text "Even if you do not pay the cost, this ability cannot be used for the rest of that turn.".
"This ability cannot be used for the rest of that turn."[]
Prior to the introduction of the 1/Turn icon, effects that could only be used once per turn used this phrase, often featuring the same above mentioned reminder text. Currently, these abilities work in exact same way as 1/Turn abilities currently do, rendering the reminder text obsolete for these cards as well.
