Seal Dragon, Blockade

"Seal Dragons" (ふうりゅう Fūryū) are a series of cards that include "Seal Dragon" in their card names, exclusive to the Kagero clan. The first card was introduced in Booster Set 2: Onslaught of Dragon Souls and the series would form into a sub-clan with the release of Booster Set 11: Seal Dragons Unleashed.

Background

The Seal Dragons are...

The generic term for the dragons who have been sealed and imprisoned by the direct order of the Emperor for various reasons. The degree and means of sealing are different than that of Dungaree. They are housed and imprisoned in a vast prison deep underground called the "Magma Prison", under direct supervision, with twice as many locks and seals as normal criminals. However, in order to counter the invasion of "Link Joker", several warriors were discharged from the prison temporarily and allowed to fight, with some of their seals weakened. As well, the stage of the seal is different which each convict.

Playstyle

Seal Dragons distinguish themselves from other Kagero sub-clans via revolving their skills around the opponent's grade 2 rear-guards and punishing their opponent accordingly based on their choice of fielding grade 2 rear-guards or opting not to. Members of the sub-clan that are capable of retiring enemy rear-guards often do so at a lower cost compared to regular members of the Kagero clan, but as a caveat allow for the opponent to search part of or all of their deck for a grade 2 rear-guard to place in exchange. However, should the opponent choose to call grade 2 rear-guards to the field, several Seal Dragon members are able to quell the advantages of those grade 2 rear-guards through denying them the ability to [Intercept] Sk intercept, a type of skill derived from the progenitor of the sub-clan, Seal Dragon, Blockade. The Seal Dragon grade 3 vanguards in turn benefit from the presence of grade 2 rear-guards on the opponents field via increasing their [Power] Power icon, [Critical] Critical icon in relation to the amount present and even outright wiping out all of the opponent's grade 2 rear-guards as is the case with their leader, Hellfire Seal Dragon, Blockade Inferno.

Seal Dragon would receive significant attention in G Standard where their prior strengths were given further emphasis alongside several, new approaches to their strategy. Several of the newer members as well as one of their G units, Helldeity Seal Dragon, Granitcross offer the opponent the choice to call a grade 2 card from their hand to (RC) and should they not, the player is able to draw a card. The deck would also receive several cards that could counter charge based on the number of enemy grade 2 rear-guards present on the field in the case of Tarpaulin Dracokid or whenever a grade 2 was called to the opponent's (RC) in the case of Doskin. All of these qualities culminate in a sub-clan that is adept at controlling the opponent's field from the outset of the game while also maintaining a healthy amount of resources throughout.

The V iteration of Seal Dragons while not a sub-clan maintain their relation to the opponent's grade 2 rear-guards via allowing the opponent to call a grade 2 card from either deck or hand after retiring a rear-guard. Should the opponent choose not to, the player is able to draw several cards or counter charge while should the opponent choose to call a grade 2, that rear-guards [AUTO] abilities do not activate. Seal Dragon, Blockade serves as the culmination of all these prior skills through his ability to retire all of the opponents grade 2 rear-guards and increase the [Power] Power icon of all front row units for each rear-guard retired. Should the opponent have no grade 2 rear-guards to retire, Blockade generates an additional force marker for it's player instead.
