Playstyle[]
In its first wave, the nation was characterized by its more unique rear-guards for the time, such as the ability to heal, having [Critical]
on rear-guards, decreasing the [Power]
of the opponent's units or simply doing more attacks without being restricted to a specific vanguard. In the first wave there were also many combinations of units that interact with each other, such as Hizamaru getting [Power]
and [Shield]
when Higekiri is on board and vice-versa.
The second wave of support focued instead of effects with cheaper than average costs for the value they provide, while also modernizing both the old above-mentioned unit synergies. This wave also re-introduced the G era Shinken Hissatsu keyword and heavily modernized the original six starter swords, improving a lot on their at the time lackluster playstyles, sometimes changing it entirely or reducing the original one to a bonus. All of these Kiwame Sentou forms have three abilities, one that treats them as the original Kiwame version, one with a cost to put a card with the same name from hand or (RC) into soul or to Counter Blast (1) if persona riding, and one that was active for as long as two or more grade 3 or greater cards with the specific name are in the player's soul.
- Kashuu Kiyomitsu Kiwame originally focused on having no face up cards in the damage zone, while Kashuu Kiyomitsu Kiwame Sentou is instead a restanding vanguard, with the rare ability to attack three times.
- Kasen Kanesada Kiwame can rest rear-guards to increase his own [Power]
, with a guard restrict upon reaching [Power]
33000. Kasen Kanesada Kiwame Sentou also gains a drive and doesn't rest rear-guards for the [Power]
increase. - Mutsunokami Yoshiyuki Kiwame simply retires the opponent's back row rear-guards and gains [Power]
for each of the opponent's open back row (RC). Mutsunokami Yoshiyuki Kiwame Sentou also gains the ability to call cards from the top of the deck to increase the number of attacks. - Yamanbagiri Kunihiro Kiwame focused on constantly persona riding, emphasized by the ride line being able to guarantee it once. Persona riding would grant the vanguard an extra [Critical]
and can replace the Counter Blast cost on its other ability, which draws a card and calls a card from hand to an open (RC). Yamanbagiri Kunihiro Kiwame Sentou gives an extra [Critical]
to the called card, which doesn't need to be called to an open (RC) anymore. - Hachisuka Kotetsu Kiwame simply gives extra [Power]
and Boost to the rear-guards, but only if the player has five rear-guards. Hachisuka Kotetsu Kiwame Sentou adds the ability to stand rear-guards. - Mikazuki Munechika Kiwame, the new ride line introduced in the second wave, has the ability to call cards from the top of the deck while being able to stack triggers, and can stand rear-guards while also having an increased [Critical]
, all without using a single Counter Blast.
The second wave also introduced Training Equipment, a card which can turn any Kiwame unit into a grade 3 vanguard, with abilities determined according to the race (sword type) the card had, stipulated on the respective crest. The ride line can also be any unit, as Training Equipment removes all [ACT] and [AUTO] abilities of the vanguard and replaces them with the ability to not discard when riding from the ride deck. Many of the crests have effects that reveal the top card of the deck, doing something if it's a trigger, and discarding the card if it's not.
- Uchigatana's Ability Kiwame can stand a rear-guard when the vanguard attacks, and can protect the rear-guard from being hit.
- Tantou's Ability Kiwame is characterized by its guard restrict, preventing the opponent from guarding with grade 1 or greater cards when the vanguard (and often the rear-guards) attacks. It also has the ability to prevent the rear-guards from being chosen by the opponent's effects during the main phase.
- Wakizashi's Ability Kiwame can increase the [Power]
of all rear-guards, and has a unique defensive skill, drawing a card when the vanguard is attacked while also getting the card's [Shield]
for the battle. - Tachi's Ability Kiwame can restand the vanguard with a Counter Blast (2) cost, without discarding cards from hand.
- Ootachi's Ability Kiwame focuses on grade 3 rear-guards, being able to stand them, distancing itself from Uchigatana in the increased strength of the rear-guards to make up for the lack of shield and early game.
- Yari's Ability Kiwame can make the vanguard attack an entire column.
- Naginata's Ability Kiwame can make the vanguard attack the entire front row, with many of the deck's cards stopping the opponent's units from standing and intercepting.
